South Carolina Weekly Shallow Saltwater Fishing Report
Week of 06-10-01 through 06-16-01

High winds and stormy weather caused the cancellation of several trips this week. Other trips were run in spite of cloudy and sometimes rainy weather. Fishing was pretty good when we got the weather to do it and we managed to find a few reds and trout. Most of the reds were caught on minnows or weedless spoons and the trout were caught on 1/4 oz. jigs with curly tails. And once again, the lure’s color did not seem to be a critical factor. We caught a couple of reds tailing again this week. Later this coming week looks like it might be another good time for tailers. The new moon is scheduled for the 21st and the tides will be good late in the day on the 18th, 19th, 20th, and 21st. After that, they will be occurring so late, it will be nearly dark at the peak. We are hoping to have some decent weather so we can get some of them on the fly rod. If not, they will still be great fun on a spinner or bait caster using a weedless spoon or a “Carolina Rigged” soft jerk bait. Not much else going on at this time. The redfish bill is stalled in the Senate with no one able to say whether it will pass or fail. It will be a shame if it fails to go through. Our totals for the week were: reds totaled 9 with the largest being 8 ½ pounds. Sea trout totaled 11 with most of them being females. There were some flounder, blues, and another couple of ladyfish caught also.

On June 18th on PBS (SC ETV here in coastal SC) there will be a two hour special, starting at 9:00 PM, hosted by Bill Moyer, titled “Earth on Edge.” This will give you some real eye-opening information about where our earth is headed unless something is done soon.
