South Carolina Weekly Shallow Saltwater Fishing Report
Week of 08-26-01 through 09-01-01

Into every trip, a little rain shall fall! That seemed to be the case this week since every trip had to put on rain gear for at least a short time sometime during the day. Wind wasn’t bad though it did blow a bit one day. On one trip it stopped blowing completely for several hours and the mosquitos nearly ate us alive! The repellant had very little affect on them.

Several trips really paid off this week with some good catches of reds. On a half day trip, we had one at 12# and another at 4#. The next day was a full day, and we had five fish that were from 4# up to 9#. Another trip had 3 reds around 5# each and 6 trout, but, the best day was on Saturday. That day, we had 16 reds that were from 4# up to 11# and one flounder, one trout, and one blue fish! I guess that’s some kind of “Inshore Slam” or something. Fortunately, this super trip was with one of our regular customers that has had a couple of poor trips lately.

Once again, we used a variety of lures along with live bait to catch these fish. The weedless spoons, crank baits, and jigs seemed to work good as did live mullet minnows.

Totals for the week were: Reds totaled 26 with the largest at 12#. Trout totaled 7 with the largest at 2 ½# and one flounder, and one blue fish.

Thanks, Gene Dickson
