South Carolina Weekly Shallow Saltwater Fishing Report
Week of 09-02-01 through 09-08-01

I only had two trips this week and both of them were pretty good. The first was a half day trip and the wind was calm. We managed to find some big reds pretty quick and caught 5 that were from 7 to 12 pounds and two medium sized trout. We caught them all on live mullet minnows. The next trip was a couple of days later and was pretty windy. Once again, the big reds were right where they should have been, in tall, heavy grass on high tide, and we caught 7 that ranged from 4 to 11 pounds. Most of these were caught on weedless spoons. The spoons we used were Johnson gold or silver ones and a Rapala spoon with a red head. We were using the 20# test Fireline (by Berkley) to hold these fish in that tough grass. Even with heavy rods and line, we managed to have a couple of fish get away from us each day.

Totals for the week were: Reds totaled 12 fish from 4 to 12 pounds each and two trout and several ladyfish.

Thanks, Gene Dickson
