"Celebrity" Fish & More: SW FL Fishbuster Dave [Post#: 466 ] Reply to this post

Captain Dave Hanson of Fishbuster Charters fished the artificial reefs off Bonita Beach, off Wiggins Pass, Naples, and in Estero Bay this week, with light tackle and live shrimp. Our offshore clients caught keeper-sized mangrove snapper, lane snapper, triggerfish, porkfish, grunts, porgies, and gag grouper (to 25 inches), and released short red grouper. In Estero Bay, hitting the tide just right, we kept a 25 inch redfish, and released 15 redfish up to 25 inches, 11 snook to 22 inches, 5 keeper-sized sheepshead and numerous smaller ones, 15 mangrove snapper, and jack cravalle. The most interesting catch was a "Mayan Cichlid", which resembles a mutton snapper crossed with a blue gill: Usually a freshwater fish, but strayed into our brackish bay. Coincidentally, you can read all about this fish in the Nov., 2001 issue of Florida Sportsman Magazine. Clients included the following parties: Ed Beitenman; Fred Speidel; and Tad Cranfield.
