All Kinds of Snapper, Mackerel & More: SW FL Dave [Post#: 746 ] Reply to this post

Fishbuster Charters' Captain Dave Hanson used live shrimp and shiners on light tackle this week to fish 10-17 miles off Bonita Beach and at the reefs, as well as 10 miles northwest of Wiggins Pass, Naples. Parties were headed by Charlie Carroll, Gregg Bedell, Paul Olef, Chuck Cullin, Bill Kassing, Terry Hicks, and Peter Halvnen. We continued to spot permit, but have not caught any, and have been unable to secure the right sized crabs, their preferred bait. Our anglers caught jack cravalle, Spanish mackerel to 30 inches, a 27 inch king mackerel, lots of keeper triggerfish to 13 inches, plentiful keeper mangrove snapper to 12 inches, eighteen yellowtail snapper to 15 inches, an 18 inch hogfish, jolthead porgies, porkfish, sheepshead, and grunts. They released a 45 pound goliath grouper, a 5 foot nurse shark, a cowfish, gag grouper shorts to 20 inches, red grouper shorts to 19 inches, assorted reef fish, and 3 female hogfish, which were laden with eggs. We spotted another big hammerhead, the second big one in the past two weeks. Find complete info and recent-catch photos at

That is a 45 pound JEWFISH! Goliath grouper my arse! I refuse to conform to all this political correctness. Long live the Jewfish. Its always been a jewfish and always will be.
